DRS Awarded $10M in Contracts to provide MSTAR systems

(PARSIPPANY, N.J.) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it was awarded contracts from various customers with a combined value of approximately $10 million to provide Man-Portable Surveillance and Target Acquisition Radars (MSTAR) systems. DRS also will provide the accompanying accessory equipment for the radar systems. The systems will support the U. S. Department of Defense (DoD) in a variety of surveillance and security applications.

The work for these contracts will be performed by the company's DRS Sustainment Systems unit based in St. Louis, Missouri. Product deliveries are expected to begin immediately and will continue through May 2007.

"DRS's MSTAR is a 'best in class' product based on its performance, reliability and price," have been chosen over our competitors because they have the best performance, reliability and price," said Thomas G. Cornwell, president of the company's Sustainment Systems Segment. "Under these new contracts, DRS will have the potential to also provide the DoD with products for wide-area intrusion detection and tracking, to control access to military bases and remotely-operated weapons, and to detect explosives and nuclear, chemical and biological weapons."

The MSTAR is low-power, ground surveillance radar, which provides wide-area coverage in all weather conditions during both day and night. It locates moving targets, classifies them as personnel, or tracked or wheeled vehicles, and is ideally suited for deployable perimeter security applications, or as part of an integrated security system for force protection, border surveillance and asset protection.

The technology and capabilities of the MSTAR are suited to fulfill homeland security missions when intrusion detection, border surveillance and perimeter security are needed to protect power generation facilities, airports, testing ranges, dams or other critical infrastructure assets.

"MSTAR provides security system enhanced operations with the capability to rapidly monitor large surveillance areas and provide information about potential hostile intrusion that may be used to cue other sensors or weapons," said Jerry Nicholson, vice president and general manager of the company's DRS Sustainment Systems unit.
