SELEX Sistemi Integrati wins EUR 20M contract in Yemen

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company signed a 20 million euros contract with the Yemenite Coast Guard for the supply of an integrated surveillance system - VTS (Vessel Traffic System) - to secure the Yemenite coasts.

The system will provide coverage of about 450 kilometres of coasts along the Red Sea and in front of the Eritrean e Somalian coasts and represents a first step of a complete surveillance programme including two further development phases.

The delivery, due to be completed within 2008, includes a national control centre in Sana'a, an area control centre in Aden, six local control centres, twelve radar workstations and two mobile units. All centres will be in net and connected with the national centre in Sana'a.

The VTS general architecture, that will be the second in the world for width of coast coverage, relies on SELEX Sistemi Integrati's experience, acquired thanks the VTS delivery held in Italy, representing the widest VTS equipment working in the world.

The Yemenite system will deploy its capabilities also to prevent piracy, intrusion, international smuggling and will be open to allow integration of further capabilities for naval security. Besides Italy, SELEX Sistemi Integrati has already provided Greece, Russia, and lately, Poland with Vessel Traffic Systems.
