( PARSIPPANY, N.J. - January 25, 2007 ) -- DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it has received new orders valued at approximately $37 million to manufacture Tactical Quiet Generators (TQG) from the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. For these orders DRS will manufacture TQGs in 3-, 5-, 10- and 15-kilowatt configurations and deliver them to various U.S. Army and Marine Corps units.
Work for these orders will be accomplished by the company's DRS Fermont unit in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The manufacturing and delivery of the TQGs will start immediately, with completion expected by September 2008.
The company's suite of TQGs is engineered and manufactured to meet U.S. military requirements for an efficient, rugged and portable source of electrical power. The TQGs provide America's warfighters with a reliable, lightweight, low-noise, power source that can be used in remote field locations wherever electrical power is needed. TQGs are used by the military during training missions, peacekeeping efforts and combat operations.
The company's DRS Fermont unit has been a leading designer and manufacturer of rugged military generator sets since 1944. DRS Technologies has delivered more than 10,000 3-kilowatt TQGs to the U.S. Army. The next-generation 100- and 200-kilowatt TQGs feature an advanced electronic diagnostics and prognostics package, and a state-of-the-art digital control panel.
"DRS has been at the forefront of producing mobile generator sets for the U.S. Army since the late 80's when we developed a new set of generators for America's warfighters," said Thomas G. Cornwell, president of DRS's Sustainment Systems Segment. "Our systems remain in demand by the U.S. military, and we have been successful in continuing our leadership role in mobile power generation because we keep striving to improve the survivability and mobility of our TQGs."
