U.S. Army Awards General Dynamics $31 Million for Combat Vehicle Work

Contracts support Abrams tank and Stryker combat vehicle

(Sterling Heights, Mich., April 20, 2007) -- The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command awarded General Dynamics Land Systems more than $31 million in three contracts for work related to the Abrams tank and Stryker eight-wheeled combat vehicle.

A $9.1 million contract for long-lead material for reset of battle damaged M1A2 Abrams System Enhancement Package (SEP) tanks was awarded on April 10, 2007. Through the reset program, General Dynamics, in partnership with the Anniston Army Depot, will service and repair Abrams tanks to a pre-combat condition, apply modifications to bring the tanks to the latest configuration, and reissue them to Army units prior to their next deployments. Work will be performed by existing employees in Anniston, Ala. (40 percent); Lima, Ohio (20 percent); Sterling Heights, Mich. (10 percent); and Scranton, Pa. (30 percent). This work is expected to be completed by June 30, 2007.

The M1A2 SEP fully digitized platform is the latest, most technologically advanced Abrams tank. It has the latest command and control system, second-generation thermal sights and improved armor.

Separately, a delivery order worth $13 million was awarded on April 12, 2007, as part of a $189.2 million contract for contractor logistics support for the Stryker's remote weapon station. Work will be performed in Iraq (66.5 percent) and Afghanistan (33.5 percent), and is expected to be completed by April 30, 2008.

A $9.1 million contract for interior and exterior driver-enhancement kits for the Stryker family of vehicles was awarded on April 13, 2007. Work will be performed in Sterling Heights, Mich., and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, 2007.
