BAE Systems Completes Third Successful Test of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System in Three Days
(Crestview, Florida, May 11, 2007) -- BAE Systems completed a third successful test of the production-ready configuration of its 2.75-inch guided rocket, the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), on May 10, 2007.
The test was the third successful test of the APKWS system in three days and the 10th successful laser-designated guided flight of the program. It was held in partnership with the U.S. Navy program office. The rocket hit the target within the 2-meter requirement of a laser spot that was designating the target.
"This is the culmination of a highly successful week of testing of the APKWS system," said Frank Wilson, vice president and general manager of Precision Targeting at BAE Systems in Nashua, New Hampshire. "This test built upon the information gathered from our two tests earlier in the week, and represents an important step in our transition to system tests on an airborne platform."
