VEM Receives ANAC's Certification for CFM 56 Engines' Top Case

(Rio de Janeiro, February 6, 2008) -- Having decided to increase the portfolio of products it makes available to the market and to offer 'nose-to-tail' maintenance to its Clients, VEM Maintenance & Engineering, which already has the technology for maintenance of Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce engines, is investing more heavily in this segment. It has just received ANAC ( Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency) certification for performing 'Top Case' maintenance on CFM 56-3 engines.

After careful inspection by ANAC, involving the facilities, technical manuals, tooling and technical training, the Brazilian agency certified VEM's Engine Shop, in Rio de Janeiro, where this type of service is performed. The certification was eagerly awaited by the market, since several company Clients operate with CFM 56 engines. VEM now is an excellent option for its Clients, since that have been times when those Operators were forced to hire foreign companies to perform this service, which increased the turnaround time (TAT) of their aircraft.

Top Case permits repairing or replacement of damaged rotor blades of the high pressure compressor (HPC) very quickly and without having to consider it a 'shop visit'. It is not necessary to disassembly none of the engine's major flanges. Only the upper section (top case) of the HPC is removed to get access to the blades.

This certification is of strategic importance to VEM's businesses and is in line with the Company's constant technical improvement that is carried out in conjunction with TAP Maintenance & Engineering, which was also an integral part of this new achievement.

'VEM is recognized worldwide for the quality of its services, and Top Case comes to add to this good image. It is a service requiring technical precision and is constantly requested by the market. This allows us to provide broader coverage for our regular Clients,' comments VEM's Marketing & Sales Vice-President, Eng. Nestor Koch.
