Aerospace Supply Chain Revolution Heads to Scotland
The Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) holds its Supply Chain for the 21st Century (SC21) Taskforce meeting in Scotland today (14 February 2008). The Taskforce is made up of representatives of the companies that have signed up to SC21. The meeting is taking place at Jabil in Livingston.
SC21 is a landmark programme to transform the aerospace and defence supply chains by cutting down on bureaucracy for suppliers - boosting small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the supply chain - through reducing the number of supply chain audits that suppliers to larger companies have to go through. The programme also aims to assist them in improving their performance.
The Taskforce is meeting to spread SC21's message of a revolution in the aerospace supply chain across the UK, to brief existing SC21 signatories on recent progress and to keep the programme at the top of the agenda throughout the wider aerospace industry.
SC21 was launched at the Farnborough International Air show in 2006 with 19 members. It now has over 300 signatories.
Russ Armitage, SC21 Chairman, said:
"To ensure the future competitiveness of the UK's aerospace industry in a very competetive global market place we have to move towards ever-leaner supply chains. SC21 has gone from strength to strength since is launch in 2006 and we will need to maintain tihs momentum to ensure a bright future for aerospace companies in the UK.
"The potential for supply chain transformation that SC21 presents has captured the imagination of over 300 aerospace companies. Together we are determined to continue the progress that we have made so far. We are committed to rotating the SC21 Taskforce meetings throughout the UK during 2008 in order to achieve this."
Ian Watson, SBAC Scotland Director, said:
"Streamlining the supply chain in the aerospace and defence industies will lead to greate cost and time savings for both suppliers and customes alike. Over three hundred companies have so far signed up to SC21 but there are many more to go. This Taskforce meeting aims to examine recent progress and build on lessons learnt to keep up the pace that has seen us sign up an average of seventeen companies per month since SC21's launch."
