Bath Iron Works Awarded $1.4 Bn Contract to Construct ZUMWALT, the Navy's Next Generation Surface Combatant

(Bath, Maine, February 14, 2008) -- The U.S. Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $1.4 billion contract to build ZUMWALT (DDG 1000). The ship is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in 2014.

The ZUMWALT class of ships represents the Navy's next generation of multi-mission surface combatants which will provide a broad range of capabilities that are vital both to supporting the global war on terror and to fighting and winning major combat operations.

Dugan Shipway, president of Bath Iron Works, said, "This is a great day for the United States Navy and for the highly skilled men and women of Bath Iron Works who are designing and who will build DDG 1000. This award reflects the hard work, dedication and total commitment by the Navy's technical and acquisition communities, industry counterparts and the Congress to bring the concept of this next generation destroyer into reality. I am encouraged about the long term impact that this award will have on the shipbuilders of BIW and I know all of them are ready to get on with the business of completing detail design and building this magnificent ship."
