BAE receives $58 M USMC Contract for MRAP Testing Support
(Sealy, Texas, February 21, 2008) -- BAE Systems has been awarded a $58 million contract modification from the U.S. Marine Corps for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle test support.
The contract supports the MRAP Expedient Armor Program's testing of the Caiman vehicle through extensive research and development to counter the threat of Explosively Formed Penetrators, which includes modeling and simulation, prototype testing and re-testing of design solutions to quickly react to evolving threats.
"This contract modification clearly illustrates the complexity of the MRAP program and the depth of our capabilities," said Chris Chambers, vice president of Medium/Heavy Vehicles for BAE Systems. "Our Caiman offers advanced protection and safety to our armed services and we are very proud to be successfully working with the MRAP Joint Program Office."
Under the contract award, BAE Systems will supply and produce additional armor protection and replacement parts, assist in the test and evaluation of these products, and work with the government test community to complete the initial operational test and evaluation.
