Gulfstream Selects Rockwell Collins' Pilot Controls, HSTS and HGS for new G650

(Cedar Rapids, Iowa, March 13, 2008) -- Rockwell Collins' pilot controls, Horizontal Stabilizer Trim System (HSTS) and Head Up Guidance system (HGS(r)) will be featured as standard equipment on the new Gulfstream G650 business jet announced earlier today. Deliveries for the aircraft are expected to begin in 2012.

"Rockwell Collins' pilot controls, HSTS and HGS are designed to meet and exceed the G650's requirements for enhanced safety, reliability, comfort, productivity and performance," said Randy Lincoln, vice president, Sales and Marketing for Rockwell Collins. "Once again, we are pleased to continue a strong relationship with Gulfstream by teaming with them to create advanced solutions that enhance situational awareness and efficiency."

The G650 flight deck will feature Rockwell Collins' latest generation of pilot controls. Rockwell Collins is working with Gulfstream to develop the flap and speed brake control modules in the center pedestal, and the pitch, roll, yaw pilot controls, as well as their interfaces to the aircraft's fly-by-wire systems. The modular design of the pilot controls will simplify installation and maintenance.

The HSTS being supplied by Rockwell Collins is a major flight control system component that optimizes aerodynamics by responding to complex computations to trim the pitch of the aircraft during flight. The Rockwell Collins' HSTS incorporates two independent means of drive and failure detection technology to meet the latest stringent certification requirements.

The HUD II on the G650 features Rockwell Collins' HGS-6250 advanced active-matrix liquid crystal display technology and presents critical flight information in the pilot's forward field of view. Aircraft flight path and attitude symbols appear overlaying the outside scene enhancing situational awareness, improving energy management and increasing touchdown precision. It provides both the brightest image over the widest HUD field-of-view in the industry while improving installed head clearance by more than 50 percent.

The new all-digital display will allow the pilot to see an integrated display of flight information and an infrared image from Gulfstream's Enhanced Vision System (EVS) in almost all weather conditions. The HGS-6250 is designed for the future with growth capacity to support emerging technologies such as synthetic vision and surface guidance which will further improve safety of operations.
