Cubic Opens Australian Defense Subsidiary
Event will also mark ADF acceptance of combat training center
(Townsville, Queensland, Australia, and San Diego, California, March 19, 2008) -- Cubic Corporation (Amex: CUB) has established an Australian subsidiary, Cubic Defence Australia Pty Ltd., to better support the Australian Defence Forces (ADF). ADF representatives were on hand when Cubic officially opened its new facility this week in Aitkenvale, Queensland, Australia. Cubic also marked the achievement of the Capability Acceptance milestone for the Combat Training Centre - Live Instrumentation System (CTC-LIS) delivered under the Australian Defence Materiel Organisation's Land 134 Project.
Cubic currently provides operation and support services for two live training programs in Australia: the CTC-LIS at Townsville; and the Australian Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation (ACMI) system for F/A-18s at RAAF Base Williamtown, New South Wales. In addition, Cubic supports the Joint Combined Training Capability (JCTC) project. These three programs were in the news last summer when Cubic integrated various training systems for the binational training Exercise Talisman Sabre '07 involving close to 17,000 Australian and U.S. armed forces.
Cubic's new office will also be a hub for Cubic's business development efforts in Australia. The office will be headed by Mark Horn, General Manager of Cubic Defence Australia Pty. Ltd. Horn previously served as Land 134 site manager for Cubic and has an extensive background in military training.
"The DMO accepted the CTC-LIS following a demanding Acceptance Test period," Horn said. "The CTC-LIS has been used to enhance training provided by the Combat Training Centre for troops embarking on operational service overseas. Cubic was pleased to have members of the ADF join us at this event to recognise the achievement of this significant milestone and the ongoing CTC-LIS provision of high-readiness collective training to Australian forces."
Mark Horn said the fully relocatable range instrumentation system has been deployed to other military and urban areas, giving hundreds of Australian military personnel a chance to experience the benefits of training with its eye-safe laser and radio engagement systems with realistic audio and visual effects. The CTC-LIS can track up to 480 exercise participants by GPS, display their location in near real time on electronic maps, and capture training events to enable replay, analysis and objective performance feedback. It is highly interoperable with other live, virtual and constructive simulation systems, including the RAAF's Air Combat Manoeuvre Instrumentation system for FA-18's; and can be configured to provide battlefield effects in complex urban environments.
