EADS DS to Enhance Philippine Air Traffic Security

- Latest technology identification radar systems to be delivered
- First air traffic control system according to the most advanced standard

(April 2, 2008) -- EADS Defence & Security (DS) together with its local partner Integrated Energy Systems & Resources Inc (IESRI), Manila/Philippines, has been awarded a contract to deliver one of the most advanced secondary radar systems for air traffic control purposes to the Philippine Air Transportation Office (ATO). The system which will be delivered by mid- 2008 will be the first building block of a comprehensive modern air traffic control network.

Defence Electronics, an integrated Business Unit of EADS Defence & Security, will establish this first air traffic control system employing the latest Mode-S standard in the region. Mode-S is an enhancement of existing air traffic control procedures in the process of implementation worldwide. IESRI will take over the system responsibility with technical support of EADS Defence & Security.

"Air traffic control authorities all over the world are faced with a continually increasing air traffic density," explained Bernd Wenzler, CEO of Defence Electronics. "This situation requires a high-performance air traffic control system ensuring reliability, easily manageable logistics and comprehensive data exchange."
