RBS15 Mk3 Successfully Fired
Saab Bofors Dynamics and Diehl BGT Defence successfully fired the latest generation Surface-to-Surface Missile RBS15 Mk3 against a land target.
(May 22, 2008) -- On Saturday March 15 2008 the RBS15 Mk3 was launched at the FMV test range Vidsel in northern Sweden, witnessed by government delegations from several nations such as Sweden, Germany and Poland.
Land attack mission
The missile was launched from a truck, previously belonging to the Swedish Armed Forces Coastal Missile Battery, and primed to perform a land attack mission at long range. The missile cruised over various terrain profiles via a large number of waypoints. It passed several sea targets within lethal range before it performed a high-G pop-up manoeuvre and hit the land target at a high dive angle.
A complete success
One purpose of the test was to verify the new GPS-based land attack functionality introduced in the Mk3 version. The firing was a complete success. The navigation system accurately followed the pre-planned trajectory and the final target impact was well within the requirement, proving the system performance in both the anti-ship as well as in the land attack mission.
Built on a proven design
The anti-ship capability in the Mk3 is already proven and inherited from previous generations of the RBS15 and this successful live firing underlines the philosophy to build on a proven design while continuously enhance the missile's capability in order to provide to the customers a world-leading product in this segment.
The RBS15 Mk3 is a powerful, versatile Surface-to-Surface Missile system with a range of more than 200 km with the capability to combat ships as well as land targets.
