Proton K Sends Federal Communications Satellite Into Orbit

(Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, June 27, 2008) -- A Proton K/Block DM launch vehicle today successfully launched a federal payload, designated as Cosmos 2440, for the Russian Ministry of Defense.

At 3:59 a.m. today Moscow time (23:59 GMT Thursday), the Proton lifted off from Launch Pad 24 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The spacecraft separated from the launch vehicle at 10:37 a.m. Moscow Time (07:37 GMT ).
