KVH Receives New $2 M Fiber Optic Gyro Order from Kongsberg

New contract expands on Kongsberg's earlier $6 million contract for KVH fiber optic gyros to use in new stabilized remote weapon stations

(Middletown, R.I., July 10, 2008) -- KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) today announced that it has received a new $2 million order for its precision DSP-3100 fiber optic gyros (FOGs) from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for use in the Protector family of remote weapon stations. The contract is in addition to a $6 million order received in April 2008 from Kongsberg, and will extend DSP-3100 FOG shipments into the early part of 2009. As with the previous order, this contract is subject to the successful completion of DSP-3100 testing and qualification, which is already underway.

The Protector family of remote weapon stations substantially improves crew safety and weapon accuracy by allowing gunners to operate, aim, and fire the weapon from inside the safety of their vehicles, taking the gunners out of turret positions where they are exposed to hostile fire. Kongsberg's Protector will rely on KVH's new DSP-3100 FOGs to provide precise stabilization and weapon recoil control while ensuring that the weapon stays on target whether the vehicle is stationary or on the move.

"KVH's fiber optic gyros are ideally suited for stabilized weapons, such as the Protector family, that provide critical safety and operational benefits for U.S. and allied warfighters," said Dan Conway, KVH's vice president of business development. "We are grateful for this display of confidence in our FOG technology and look forward to continuing our close collaboration with Kongsberg in the future."
