L-3 Selected for Air Force Weapon Systems Support Contract
(New York, August 6, 2008) -- L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) today announced it has been selected as a prime contractor for a U.S. Air Force weapons systems support contract with a maximum value of $6.9 billion.
The company was one of 12 prime contractors selected for contracts for the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) program known as the Future, Flexible Acquisition and Sustainment Tool (F(2)AST). L-3 will compete for task orders and delivery orders under the F(2)AST program.
L-3 will provide modifications, development, repairs, and limited, critical or contingency spares for all Air Force-managed weapons systems. Requirements include Air Force Special Operations Forces (SOF) weapons systems and may also include Foreign Military Sales (FMS) platforms and systems.
"Winning as a prime contractor for F(2)AST demonstrates the cumulative strength of L-3 Integrated Systems to provide broad domain aerospace engineering expertise, aircraft modification and logistics support capabilities to our military customers," said Alison Hartley, senior vice president of business development for L-3 Integrated Systems.
L-3 Integrated Systems will manage the program through its L-3 TCS subsidiary in Warner-Robins, Ga., and includes the capabilities of its major aircraft modification centers in Crestview, Fla., and Waco, Texas. The contract also gives U.S. Air Force customers access to the full breadth of L-3's capabilities and critical subcontractors via F(2)AST.
"L-3's experience and the high confidence that its Air Force and Special Operations community customers have in providing quick-reaction, weapons system support was an important part of the selection process," said Ed Gloviak, senior vice president of special programs and services for L-3 Integrated Systems. "Fast and flexible, yet impeccable technical ability is what we deliver."
