Terma SCANTER 4100 Surveillance Radar selected for Royal Navy Ocean Patrol Vessels
The British Royal Navy is the very first navy to install Termas newly developed Surveillance Radar, SCANTER 4100, on an Offshore Patrol Vessel Helicopter (OPVH).
Radar Systems
Terma recently secured the first export order for the SCANTER 4100 to BAE Systems. BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies is the prime contractor for the supply of the ships combat management system to which the surveillance radar will supply information. The ship is currently being built at the British shipyard VT Shipbuilding Limited. Terma is responsible for installation, Setting-to-Work, and final test.
SCANTER 4100 is a new digital radar for combined surface and air surveillance - to a range of 110 Nm from the ship. The radar is capable of detecting small targets in all weather conditions, and it is particularly suited for the surveillance and control of helicopters. Termas product was selected as it applies the latest technology which provides a balance between performance and price.
With the current SCANTER 2001 concept, Terma has gained international recognition for the development of radar systems, which are suited for any kind of surface or costal surveillance. The necessary function to detect and track small targets in all weather conditions is a particular feature which has been developed.
It is this technology which has been further developed in the SCANTER 4100. With an attractive design, it utilizes a joint Tube Wave Travelling, TWT, transmitter and individual Frequency Diversity Receivers which have an advanced signal processing, with a new concept for MTI processing (MTI=Moving Target Indication).
The SCANTER 4100 is a further development of the SCANTER 4000, which Terma is currently finalizing. The first units are to be delivered at the beginning of 2006 for the Royal Danish Navys land-based surveillance.
The agreement with BAE Systems marks a breakthrough for Terma as it is the first delivery to the Royal Navy, one of the Worlds largest navies. Provided that the project proceeds satisfactorily, we expect further contracts, and the project is followed with great attention from other potential customers.
