Schiebel CAMCOPTER(R) S-100 Completes Acceptance Testing in United Arab Emirates

(Abu Dhabi, 29th March 2006) -- The Schiebel CAMCOPTER(R) S-100 VTOL UAV System has passed its acceptance trials in the United Arab Emirates with flying colours. The S-100 reached an altitude of 13,000 feet (3,962 m) with almost full gross weight, airspeeds in excess of 100 kts (185 km/h) and demonstrated its ability to stay aloft for six hours carrying a 25 kg (55 lbs) payload with ease, meeting or exceeding the planned performance envelope. All acceptance trials were conducted in Abu Dhabi in desert conditions with temperatures well in excess of 35°C and surface winds during some flights reaching 25 kts.

The United Arab Emirates' UAV Research and Technology Center (UAVRTC) has contributed heavily to the S-100 (UAE designation "Al Saber") test and development programme, and has ordered eighty Aerial Vehicles. Delivery is scheduled to start in June 2006 at a rate of four series-production aircrafts per month. To accommodate the volume of this order, Schiebel has established a production facility in the UAE under the sponsorship of the UAE UAVRTC, concentrating on advanced composite production and assembly of the S-100.
